Insta360 X6 Brings 8K50 Video and On-Camera AI

Insta360 has introduced the X6, a new flagship camera designed to handle immersive capture, action footage, and automatically framed flat video with one device. Its headline upgrades include 8K50 360 video, larger square sensors, more processing power, and an AI system capable of producing edited clips while the camera charges. It is a substantial technical update aimed at creators who want flexible footage without carrying several cameras.

Larger Sensors Meet Triple-Chip Processing

The X6 uses two custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors that provide the equivalent imaging area of dual 1-inch sensors. Compared with the X5, the new hardware offers 33 percent more sensor area and captures approximately four times as much light per frame. That should make its low-light footage cleaner while preserving more detail in scenes containing bright highlights and deep shadows.

Image processing is handled by an eight-core 3.3GHz processor and two dedicated imaging chips. Insta360 claims this configuration provides five times the computing power of its predecessor while consuming 35 percent less power. AdaptiveTone 2.0 independently meters each lens and records two exposures per frame, while dedicated ambient-light sensors help reduce flicker during night recording.

The X6 is also billed as the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision. It records 10-bit color with more than 1.07 billion available colors, while the I-Log profile gives experienced users more flexibility when grading footage during post-production.

Three Different Cameras in One Body

In its primary mode, the X6 records everything around the operator at up to 8K50fps, allowing the final viewing angle to be selected afterward. InstaFrame 2.0 can instead track people, pets, or objects and output ready-to-share flat 4K footage directly from the camera, reducing the need for manual reframing.

A single-lens mode turns the device into a conventional action camera. It supports 5K60fps recording, a field of view reaching 170 degrees at 5K30fps, and 4K120fps slow motion. Optional accessories add joystick-controlled tracking or head-directed framing, giving creators gimbal-like control without introducing another camera platform.

Rugged Hardware and Faster Connections

The camera has a 2.32-inch OLED display with 1,200 nits of peak brightness and glove-friendly controls. Its 2,600mAh battery can record for up to 140 minutes at 8K30fps and reach 80 percent charge in 24 minutes. The body is IP68 waterproof to 20 meters, while the Invisible Dive Case Pro extends that depth to 60 meters.

Replaceable Lens 2.0 is claimed to be five times more scratch-resistant and 60 percent cheaper to replace than the previous design. Users also get 47GB of usable internal storage, Wi-Fi 6.0 transfers at up to 100MB/s, USB 3.0 transfers at up to 450MB/s, NFC pairing, FlowState stabilization, and 360 Horizon Lock.

Audio comes from a four-microphone wind-resistant array plus a separate microphone tuned to isolate motorcycle engine sounds. Two compatible wireless transmitters can connect directly for interviews or dual-person recording. The camera also supports more than 100 accessories through a magnetic mounting system compatible with several existing Insta360 products.

AI Editing Makes the X6 More Independent

PanoMind is the X6’s native spherical-scene AI model. When the camera is connected to power, its AI Director can analyze stored footage locally and assemble highlight clips for the mobile app. Auto Edit 2.0 offers more control over framing, cuts, music, camera movement, and transitions, while optional cloud-based Moments Pro uses Google Gemini to create videos from user-defined subjects and styles.
