Insta360 is expanding its Luna Series with the new Luna Pro, a compact gimbal camera co-engineered with Leica and aimed at creators who want higher-end image quality without giving up the speed of a pocketable shooting setup. The camera combines a 1-inch 8K sensor with a Leica Summicron lens, while features such as native vertical recording, AI tracking, and a detachable screen make it particularly relevant for solo creators producing both short-form and more polished video projects.

A 1-Inch Sensor Pushes Luna Pro Toward Serious Video Work

The core hardware is built around a Leica Summicron lens and a 1-inch 8K sensor, giving Luna Pro considerably more imaging ambition than a typical phone-first creator camera. Insta360 says the larger sensor is designed to improve detail and low-light performance, while its Dual AI Chip architecture splits processing between a dedicated imaging processor and a 4nm flagship chip.

Video options extend well beyond casual social content. Luna Pro can capture 8K Dolby Vision footage, 4K video at up to 120fps, and 1080p at 240fps. It also includes 10-bit I-Log for users who prefer grading footage in post. Support for ACES workflows further signals that Insta360 is not limiting the camera to quick automatic edits.

There are still practical considerations. Recording at higher resolutions and frame rates generally creates larger files and a more demanding editing workflow, so creators who mainly publish quick clips may not need to lean heavily on the camera’s maximum specifications. The benefit is flexibility: the same device can handle fast social media capture and more controlled production work.

Native 4K Vertical Video Targets Short-Form Creators

One of Luna Pro’s more practical features is native 4K30 vertical recording. Instead of shooting horizontally and cropping later, users can rotate the touchscreen and record vertical footage directly. Insta360 says the mode uses 6K oversampling, which should help retain detail in the final 4K output.

This approach is particularly useful for creators working across Reels, Shorts, TikTok, and other vertical platforms. Avoiding a heavy crop can preserve more of the sensor’s available image information while also making framing easier during capture. The detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen adds more flexibility when recording from low, high, or unusual angles.

Slide-to-start recording and twist-to-shoot controls are clearly designed around speed rather than complicated menu navigation. That matters for travel, street content, events, and everyday vlogging, where missing the moment is usually a bigger problem than lacking another page of camera settings.

AI Tracking and 3-Axis Stabilization Simplify Solo Shooting

Luna Pro uses 3-axis mechanical stabilization together with Insta360’s Deep Track and Rapid Focus technologies. The combination is intended to keep moving subjects both framed and sharp, reducing the need for a second camera operator when filming walking shots, demonstrations, or pieces to camera.

The camera also supports a POV Head Tracker for first-person shooting and provides up to 2x lossless zoom plus 4x HighRes Zoom. Insta360 says AI processing helps maintain clarity at higher zoom levels, although the latter should still be viewed differently from optical zoom because image processing plays a larger role.

Battery life is rated at up to four hours, while 47GB of built-in storage allows recording without immediately adding removable storage. Direct connectivity with the Insta360 Mic Series also gives vloggers a more integrated wireless audio workflow, particularly useful when the camera is positioned away from the speaker.

Workflow Features Go Beyond Casual Vlogging

The Luna Pro becomes more interesting when its creator-friendly controls are combined with features normally associated with more advanced production setups. Built-in timecode can simplify synchronization across multiple cameras, with workflows supported in Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Three Leica color profiles are included: Leica Natural, Leica Vivid, and Leica Chrome. These provide different looks directly from the camera, while cinematic filters offer additional options for users who want usable footage quickly. At the opposite end of the workflow, 10-bit I-Log gives editors more latitude over color and tonal adjustments.

NFC connectivity lets compatible phones connect to the Insta360 app with a tap, and AI-assisted editing tools can automatically turn recorded footage into more polished clips. That combination illustrates Luna Pro’s real target audience: creators who want the convenience of automated shooting and editing but still need access to manual or professional workflow tools when a project becomes more demanding.
