Yamaha DXR mk3 Speakers Deliver Up to 134 dB

Yamaha has introduced the DXR mk3 Series, a third-generation family of powered loudspeakers aimed at musicians, DJs, production crews, rental companies, and installed-sound users. The lineup consists of the DXR10 mk3, DXR12 mk3, and DXR15 mk3, giving buyers three cabinet sizes built around the same 2,000W amplification and 96 kHz DSP platform.

Rather than changing the basic formula of a portable two-way speaker, the new generation focuses on higher output, easier system tuning, and more centralized control. All three models can serve as main speakers, stage monitors, or components in permanent installations, but differences in woofer size, maximum SPL, low-frequency extension, dimensions, and weight make each version better suited to a particular job.

One Amplifier and DSP Platform Across Three Sizes

Every DXR mk3 model uses a newly developed Class-D amplifier rated at 2,000W peak and 1,000W RMS. Power is divided between 1,700W for the low-frequency driver and 300W for the high-frequency section. This shared amplifier architecture means the smaller DXR10 mk3 is not treated as a cut-down entry model, although its cabinet and driver naturally limit maximum output compared with the larger speakers.

Audio processing is handled at 32-bit/96 kHz resolution. Yamaha’s Advanced FIR-X Tuning combines linear-phase FIR filtering with corrective EQ to reduce phase distortion around the crossover point. Drive Motion Calibration also monitors and corrects the behavior of the low-frequency driver, with the goal of producing tighter bass while keeping the system reliable when pushed at higher levels.

The three speakers use the same 1.75-inch HF diaphragm with a one-inch throat compression driver. They also share a 90-degree horizontal by 60-degree vertical coverage pattern, making it easier to combine different cabinet sizes within one system without dealing with radically different dispersion characteristics.

DXR10, DXR12, or DXR15 mk3: Which One Fits?

The DXR10 mk3 is the compact utility option. Its 10-inch woofer, 14.5 kg weight, and 310 mm-wide cabinet make it the easiest model to transport and position in smaller spaces. It reaches a maximum output of 132 dB SPL and extends down to 53 Hz. That combination should work well for speech, acoustic performers, compact DJ setups, stage monitoring, and events where portability matters more than maximum bass depth.

The DXR12 mk3 is the middle-ground model, pairing a 12-inch woofer with a maximum output of 134 dB SPL. Its frequency range reaches down to 50 Hz, while the enclosure weighs 17.4 kg. For many users, this is likely to be the most flexible choice because it delivers the same headline SPL figure as the 15-inch version while remaining smaller and lighter. It can handle front-of-house duties, floor monitoring, live bands, and stage side-fill applications.

The DXR15 mk3 prioritizes low-frequency weight and full-range output. Its 15-inch woofer reaches 46 Hz, making it the strongest standalone choice for DJs, electronic music, and live performances that need more bass without immediately adding a subwoofer. Maximum output remains 134 dB SPL, but the larger enclosure increases the weight to 21 kg. Its three-inch LF voice coil is also larger than the 2.5-inch coils used in the other two models.

DSP Tools Reduce Manual Setup Work

The onboard DSP includes operating modes for FOH/Main, Monitor, DJ, Live Music, and Speech applications. These modes provide practical starting points rather than forcing users to build every EQ curve from scratch. An internal accelerometer can detect cabinet orientation, while the Auto V/H Position function adjusts relevant settings when a speaker is used vertically or placed horizontally as a monitor.

An intelligent feedback suppressor is included for situations involving handheld or fixed microphones. Users can also adjust parametric EQ, delay, routing, high-pass filtering, and other processing from the rear control panel. A full-color LCD and rotary encoder replace the more basic controls typically found on portable active speakers, making stored presets and detailed settings easier to navigate on-site.

The ability to save and recall up to eight user presets should be especially useful for rental providers, touring performers, and venues that repeatedly use the same rooms. A room-specific configuration can be loaded without repeating the complete tuning process, while factory presets remain available for faster setups.

Bluetooth, D-Remote Control, and Availability

Bluetooth 5.0 supports wireless audio streaming with SBC and AAC codecs. More importantly for system operation, the D-Remote app for iOS and Android can manage and tune as many as 10 connected speakers from one mobile device. Engineers can move around a venue while changing levels and processing instead of returning to the rear panel of each cabinet.

Physical connectivity includes two combo analog inputs, an XLR thru output, and a second XLR output that can operate as either thru or DSP out. Dual-angle 35 mm pole sockets provide zero-degree or seven-degree downward positioning, while rigging points and optional U-brackets support fixed installations. The molded polypropylene enclosures are also shaped for use as floor monitors.

The Yamaha DXR mk3 Series is available now through authorized Yamaha dealers and retailers in the United States. Official retail pricing was not specified in the announcement and may vary by model and dealer. All three versions are covered by a seven-year Yamaha warranty, giving buyers the same core DSP, connectivity, and amplifier system while allowing them to choose between compact portability, balanced versatility, or stronger low-frequency extension.
