Roomba Max 875 Adds SealForce Carpet Cleaning

iRobot is pushing its flagship floor-care lineup into more serious cleaning territory with the Roomba Max 875 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock. The new robot combines 35,000 Pa suction, a carpet-sealing vacuum system, heated roller mopping, AI object avoidance, and automated dock maintenance. Its main upgrade is not simply more suction, but a redesigned approach to directing airflow where embedded debris tends to hide.

SealForce Changes How Suction Reaches Carpet

The headline feature is SealForce Vacuuming Technology. When the robot moves onto carpet, its chassis lowers a skirt that forms a tighter seal against the carpet fibres. This reduces airflow escaping around the sides and concentrates the available vacuuming power underneath the robot.

SealForce works alongside 20 L/s airflow and 35,000 Pa suction. iRobot claims five times the suction power of the Roomba 505 and three times deeper carpet cleaning than vacuuming without SealForce. Those comparisons come from the manufacturer rather than independent testing, but the sealing concept could be particularly useful for thicker carpets where loose debris becomes trapped below the surface.

A hair-cutting main brush and spiral Edge-Sweeping side brush create a dual anti-tangle system aimed at homes with pets or long-haired occupants. PerfectEdge can extend the roller by up to 45 mm near walls and baseboards, while the expanding side brush targets corners that a circular robot body cannot reach directly.

Heated Mist Meets a Larger Roller Mop

Hard-floor cleaning is handled by a dual-action heated mopping system. ThermaMist uses ultrasonic technology to apply a continuous heated mist ahead of the roller, helping soften dried spills before the mop reaches them. According to iRobot, this provides twice the stain removal performance of mopping without ThermaMist.

The PowerSpin Max Roller Mop then rotates at 300 RPM while applying 18 Newtons of downward pressure. It is 44 percent larger than the standard PowerSpin roller and provides 1.2 times wider coverage per pass. The roller continuously cleans itself during operation, limiting how much dirty water is dragged across the remaining floor.

For mixed-floor homes, DriLift Technology uses AI-assisted carpet detection to raise the mop and lower a protective shield. This mechanical barrier is designed to prevent moisture from reaching rugs, addressing a common limitation of vacuum-and-mop robots that merely lift their mop pads by a small distance.

AutoWash Dock Reduces Routine Maintenance

The AutoWash Dock washes the roller using water heated to 80 degrees Celsius and dries it with 55-degree heated air. It also dispenses StayClean Mopping Concentrate automatically and empties collected debris into a carbon AllergenLock bag, which can hold up to 90 days of dirt under iRobot‘s stated usage conditions.

This setup should reduce everyday contact with dirty rollers and dust, although it does not eliminate maintenance entirely. Owners will still need to replenish clean water and concentrate, manage wastewater, replace the debris bag, and inspect brushes for accumulated hair or obstructions.

Navigation, Object Avoidance and Ideal Users

ClearView Pro Dual-Line LiDAR manages room-to-room navigation, while PrecisionVision AI is claimed to recognise and avoid more than 300 household objects. Cleaning schedules, room targeting, pet-area prioritisation, and voice controls are available through the Roomba Home App. Voice integration supports compatible Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant devices.

At 9.98 cm tall, the robot is designed to travel beneath relatively low furniture and can climb thresholds up to 3.5 cm. That combination makes it best suited to larger or mixed-surface homes where automated carpet cleaning, stain removal, and rug protection matter more than keeping the initial cost low.

The Roomba Max 875 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock became available on September 2 for GBP 1,099. At that price, buyers are paying for a broad collection of automated cleaning and maintenance features, while real-world performance will still depend on floor type, room layout, and the kinds of debris encountered.
