RISION Magic Pro Turns Phones Into Thermal Inspection Tools

RISION has opened pre-orders for the Magic Pro, a compact USB-C thermal camera designed to turn compatible smartphones, tablets, and Windows computers into portable inspection tools. Positioned as the professional model in the company’s Magic Series, it keeps the battery-free 24-gram form factor of the standard Magic while adding a higher-resolution thermal sensor and more advanced measurement, documentation, and reporting capabilities.

A Higher-Resolution Thermal Sensor for Detailed Inspections

The main upgrade is a native 256 x 192 thermal array. RISION processes that sensor data using its QuadIR technology to produce images at 512 x 384 resolution. The additional detail is particularly relevant when an inspection involves tightly packed components such as electrical breakers, terminals, HVAC tubing, or plumbing hidden behind interior surfaces.

Resolution matters for more than producing sharper-looking thermal images. When an inspector places point, line, or area measurements over a scene, better spatial definition can make it easier to associate temperature readings with the correct component instead of an adjacent object. That becomes increasingly useful in crowded electrical or mechanical environments.

Multi-Zone Analysis Expands Its Practical Uses

The Magic Pro supports multiple inspection scenarios rather than being limited to basic hot-spot detection. In an electrical panel, users can monitor several breakers and configure temperature thresholds to identify circuits running hotter than surrounding components. HVAC technicians can compare supply and return temperatures or record equipment during startup to observe thermal behavior under load.

For building diagnostics, the camera can be used to locate insulation gaps, thermal bridges, and possible air-leak patterns across walls or facades. Mechanical and automotive applications include monitoring bearings, motors, and brake discs while displaying temperature changes through real-time waveform graphs.

AI Dual-Spectrum Fusion and Radiometric Recording

The Magic Pro also includes RISION‘s AI BiSpectrix dual-spectrum fusion system, combining thermal information with visible-light imagery. This approach can make thermal anomalies easier to identify because users retain visual context around the temperature data instead of working with an isolated heat map.

Radiometric photos and video preserve temperature information for later analysis, while one-tap PDF reporting is aimed at workflows where findings need to be documented for customers or project records. That makes the Magic Pro more relevant to inspection professionals than thermal accessories intended mainly for occasional troubleshooting.

Its thermal specifications otherwise match the standard Magic, including sensitivity of no more than 40 mK, a 25 Hz refresh rate, a measurement range from -20°C to 600°C, and stated accuracy of ±2%. Because the unit draws power through USB-C, there is no separate camera battery to recharge, although this also means it depends on the connected host device during operation.

The RISION Magic Pro carries a $299 MSRP, with pre-orders offered at $219 after a $10 deposit until September 28, 2026. Open sales through the official website and Amazon are scheduled for the same date, while UK availability is planned for October 13 at £359 MSRP or £269 during the early-bird period.
