xLean Robotics, a startup born from CUHK’s Robotics Institute, has unveiled the xLean TR1, the world’s first dual-form transformable cleaning robot, at IFA 2025 in Berlin. Combining cutting-edge AI with a versatile design, the TR1 promises to handle both everyday deep cleaning and on-demand spot cleaning in ways that traditional robots simply can’t.
Dual-Form Transformation for Any Mess
The dual-form design is what sets the TR1 apart. In robot form, it glides through tight spaces with a square body and an 800 RPM dual-roller mop, ensuring even corner coverage. With a single electric lock, it instantly transforms into handheld mode, enabling precise spot cleaning for unexpected messes. This flexibility makes it a unique crossover between robotic automation and handheld utility.
Reinforcement Learning From Human Feedback
In handheld form, the TR1 isn’t just about cleaning—it’s about learning. Equipped with an RGB-D camera, green laser, and advanced motor encoders, it observes how users tackle dirt. This knowledge is then transferred back to its robot form through Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF). The result: cleaning routines that mimic human judgment, enhanced over time by cloud-based Self-Evolving Intelligence, updated via OTA.
Powerful New Cleaning Mechanism
To address the toughest challenges like sticky spills and solid-liquid mixtures, xLean developed Dual-Motor DirectSuction™. Unlike conventional mop-and-vacuum combos, this system applies high negative pressure to capture solids and liquids in one pass. Supporting it is VortexMatrix™ Separation Technology, refined through more than 40 design iterations and fluid simulations over three years—allowing for efficient gas-liquid separation inside a low-profile body.
Convenience and Privacy at the Core
The TR1 comes with the OMNI Station, which handles waste disposal, 60°C hot-water flushing, and self-drying. Safety and trust are built in, thanks to a physical camera shutter and vision-LiDAR recognition system. With its fusion of automation and user-centric design, xLean positions the TR1 as a serious step toward general-purpose robotics. According to CEO Kehan Xue, the company’s mission is simple: “One robot, one task, done right.”
Visitors at IFA 2025 can see the TR1 in action at Hall 25, Booth 260. Following its showcase, the product will head to a global Kickstarter launch, with availability and pricing announced alongside the campaign.
